Below you will find some answers to our frequently asked questions.
How old do you need to be to play?
Ages 5+. We currently have players as young as 7 and as old as 35!
Is the team coed?
YES! We are an all-gender hockey team!
What does it cost to join the team?
Almost nothing! There is no team fee but you will need to sign up for USA Hockey. Your USA Hockey membership is free the first year you play. After that memberships start at $50. We do ask that if you are able and willing to make an optional team fee donation to help support the team.
You will also need to register with American Special Hockey Association (ASHA). This is a free membership.
What if I have never skated before?
No problem! We will help you learn. Come to practice and we will help you learn the skills you need to skate. You can also take advantage of the FREE adaptive ice skating lessons that the Madison Ice Arena offers.
When is the hockey season?
We begin practice in September and run through April. Typically our practices are held on Sundays from 2:45-4:15.
What if I don't feel comfortable playing in a game?
We have some members of the team that actually just come to practice. Or some who started out just going to practice then had more confidence to join us for a game. We do travel to Minnesota in the fall, we try to do games with other special teams in the area (Milwaukee SHAW Pirates and The Chicago Storm). But you do not have to travel if that is not something you can or feel comfortable doing!
What equipment do I need?
We do our best to provide most of the equipment that is needed to play. We do ask that you provide your own non expired helmet. More information can be found here.
